WARM BODIES (WARM BODIES #1)- ISAAC MARION

Title - Warm Bodies (Warm bodies #1)
Author - Isaac Marion
Series - Warm Bodies
Genre - Zombie Romance/ Post-Apocalyptic Fiction/ Paranormal Romance
Pages - 256

R is having a no-life crisis—he is a zombie. He has no memories, no identity, and no pulse, but he is a little different from his fellow Dead. He may occasionally eat people, but he’d rather be riding abandoned airport escalators, listening to Sinatra in the cozy 747 he calls home, or collecting souvenirs from the ruins of civilization.

And then he meets a girl.
First as his captive, then his reluctant house guest, Julie is a blast of living color in R’s gray landscape, and something inside him begins to bloom. He doesn’t want to eat this girl—although she looks delicious—he wants to protect her. But their unlikely bond will cause ripples they can’t imagine, and their hopeless world won’t change without a fight.

*This review contains spoilers*
I bet you didn't know zombies could have sex! Exciting eh ;) ? Don't get too excited, you're about to know what zombie sex is like...

This book is from an over-thinking, pretty eloquent in his thoughts, and not quite your usual zombie protagonist's point of view. His name is 'R', atleast that's the alphabet it begins with as far as he can remember. So our hero 'R' is very different from other zombies, he likes his privacy, he listens to Sinatra, he hoards souvenirs in his 747 commercial jet which is also his home and he thinks actual thoughts, something other zombies don't. Because they are DEAD. That's why they are ZOMBIES! 'R' also has the motor skills to drive a car, pretty sophisticated for a zombie eh ?

Now 'R' has this zombie friend named 'M' and the two of them do converse a lot for zombies. 'M' likes sex, that's what Isaac has projected in this book... and 'M' swears a lot. Like A lot.

There are two kinds of Dead in their world, one are the zombies and the other- the Boneys. Boneys are basically way too decayed zombies. They are skeletons with a little rotten flesh stuck to their bones. No skin, no eyeballs. Yet they can see! Yes...they have hollow and empty eye sockets and yet they can see. They even play priests in churches/church-like arrangement built by these Dead things and marry 'R' to this zombie woman who is the most unromantic wife I've ever read about. Along with being unromantic she also happens to be a cheating wife. 'R' catches her, red-handed, having sex with her lover who obviously is also a zombie.

"I heard noises, the door was wide open, so I walked in. There they were, naked, awkwardly slamming their bodies together, grunting and groping each other's pale flesh. He was limp. She was dry."

Well apparently that's how zombies have sex.

There is also this part where 'R' wants to take a piss after drinking and he describes his pen**. The description is quite hilarious.

"I unzip, and I look down, and there it is. That mythical instrument of life and death and first-date back-seat fucking. It hangs limp, useless now, silently judging me for all the ways I’ve misused it over the years."

Enough with the spoilers, now about the writing. It was well written but it got confusing when Perry, Julie's dead boyfriend began talking to 'R' through dreams. I didn't enjoy the writing so much, and I couldn't finish the book smoothly cause it got a little frustrating at times. There were parts that made me laugh, there were parts I enjoyed. But nothing too gripping. I really couldn't see the romance between Julie and 'R', but the premise is undoubtedly ingenious. (I think Isaac Marion aimed at bringing about a Romeo-Juliet feel to the romance... hence the names - 'R' for Romeo and 'Julie' for Juliet. It definitely isn't just a coincidence.)

I enjoyed the movie better. Many parts from the book were omitted in the movie. The movie was tailored to give its viewers an enjoyable experience and it succeeded. You must watch the movie, it's fun and cute.

This book is part of a series. The second book is called The New Hunger and the third one is The Burning World (not out yet). I will be reading them.
