If I Stay - Gayle Forman

Title - If I Stay
Author - Gayle Forman
Genre - Young Adult
Pages - 256

This book is part of a duology, "Where she went" being the next book.

Just listen, Adam says with a voice that sounds like shrapnel.

I open my eyes wide now.
I sit up as much as I can.
And I listen.

Stay, he says.

Choices. Seventeen-year-old Mia is faced with some tough ones: Stay true to her first love—music—even if it means losing her boyfriend and leaving her family and friends behind?

Then one February morning Mia goes for a drive with her family, and in an instant, everything changes. Suddenly, all the choices are gone, except one. And it's the only one that matters.

If I Stay is a heartachingly beautiful book about the power of love, the true meaning of family, and the choices we all make.

I read the synopsis of this one a very long time ago and made a note to include it in my TBR list. For some reason I forgot the title of the book and so I just let go. A year later, a friend recommended it to me on goodreads. That pulled out a sigh from me and I jumped right to it.

If the story doesn't speak to me, I take a very long time to complete the book. But if I start, I push myself through till the end of the book, fervently hoping it gets better eventually. That's what happened to me with If I Stay. I loved the overall story, but I know deep within it could have been so much better, so much more beautiful. I feel sad to say that I was emotionally disconnected the whole time, and it took me more than a couple of days to complete reading the book.

I haven't watched the movie yet, and I've read and heard some very good things about it. Now that I have read the book, I will watch the movie soon.

This book might appeal to the young demographic and though it wasn't heavy on the emotions for me I do know of quite a few who shed a lot of tears over the plot.
